Diversity and Inclusion

We’re committed to Diversity and Inclusion, not just by creating an inclusive recruitment, but also by creating an inclusive community where our people thrive. Our Diversity and Inclusion Strategy covers the whole of the employment lifecycle - making sure everyone can reach their potential. Our strategy is underpinned by three strategic priorities:

  • Measure: We focus on making sure colleagues are able to share their diversity, at any point in their employment. We’re also using this data to measure our progress in creating more diversity in the organisation. For example, we measure gender diversity in our leadership team.
  • Upskill: We’re making sure that all our teams, especially leaders, know what diversity is, and why it’s important in our organisation. This empowers our teams to be accountable for driving Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Working Group: This includes a cross section of people from the organisation who are passionate about creating an inclusive culture, which is paramount to the success of the strategy. Our working group helps set the Diversity agenda and goals.

We’re focusing on 5 key areas:

  • Gender - What we can do to narrow the gender pay gap
  • LGBT+ - What needs to be done to create a safe environment for our team to feel comfortable to be themselves
  • Disability - Along with our Wellbeing agenda, we're ensuring we support colleagues with equal opportunities for both physical and mental health
  • Multi-generational - Ensuring everyone has a seat at the table no matter their age, and helping people of all ages to work harmoniously together
  • Multi-cultural - Celebrating differences in religion, ethnic origin and race

Some of the key things we’re doing this year:

  • Each month one of our colleagues shares their story, bringing to life what it means to be diverse.
  • Neurodiversity Training
  • Celebrating International Women’s Day
  • Partnering with Stonewall
  • Creating employee guides to religions and religious holidays

Each of our UK sites choose and support a local charity that is important to them. By giving our colleagues the responsibility to select who we support, we’ve managed to achieve our charity targets year on year... and then some! The knowledge that we’re helping others is hugely empowering, and has been proven to make our colleagues feel even happier and more fulfilled in work.

Each site has a Charity Team who are supported by a dedicated Charity Committee that help coordinate events. Our current supported charities are:
- Mind
- North Clwyd Animal Rescue
- Awstin's Journey
- Yorkshire Air Ambulance

We have an annual target to raise over £25,000 for our chosen charities, which is achieved through various initiatives including: our weekly dress down days, large-scale events like half marathons and trekking challenges, as well as bake sales, sponsored go-karting, and our Leadership Team took part in a Bake-Off event!

Last year we raised an incredible £40,315 for multiple charities across the UK, exceeding all previous records, by some margin!

We’re aiming to do even better this year!

  • Weekly sponsored dress down days
  • Sporting challenges like half marathons
  • Bake sales
  • Halloween and Christmas events
  • Competitions

Target welcomes the opportunity to report our Gender Pay Gap figures and to be transparent about our gender pay difference and the positive actions we as a Company can continue to take to reduce this gap and ensure opportunities for all employees.
